Gwen M Cousins, MD, FACS
Dr. Gwen Cousins earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and her medical degree from Louisiana State University Medical Center in Shreveport. She went on to an Internship in Medicine at Ochsner Hospital in New Orleans and a Residency in Ophthalmology at Louisiana State University Health and Science Center in New Orleans. Dr. Cousins then continued her training with a Fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery at The Foundation for Retinal Research in New Orleans.
The recipient of numerous academic honors, Dr. Cousins was awarded the prestigious Slaughter Academic Scholarship at Louisiana State University Medical Center. She also received the Outstanding Performance in Medical Microbiology Award from Louisiana State University Medical Center as well as the Louisiana Honor Scholar Scholarship and Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society membership while at Louisiana State University.
Board certified in Ophthalmology, Dr. Cousins has been a vitreoretinal physician and surgeon practicing in New Orleans since 2007. She is on staff at East Jefferson General Hospital in Metairie and Sterling Surgical Hospital in Slidell. Dr. Cousins is an active researcher, participating in ongoing clinical investigations in ophthalmology focused on diseases of the retina, macula and vitreous.
